ED3 is the official engine code used within the Chrysler/Stellantis Group for the 2.4L World Gasoline Engine (WGE) (i.e., the “World Engine” platform, also known as the 2.4 World Engine or Tigershark).
Technical Evolution: This platform was jointly developed by the “Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA),” a consortium formed by Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai (Mitsubishi’s equivalent code is 4B12, while Hyundai/Kia’s equivalent codes are Theta and Theta II). The ED3 version was widely used in classic models such as the Jeep Compass (MK49), Jeep Patriot, and Dodge Caliber. It features a dual VVT timing system with a simple and proven design.
