Suitable for multiple Land Rover models from 2009 to 2017, the 306DT is a widely used 3.0 TDV6 diesel engine fitted on Discovery 4 (L319), Range Rover (L405), and Range Rover Sport (L320/L494). With strong torque delivery and refined operation, it served as the core diesel powertrain for Land Rover during this period.
As these vehicles have aged beyond 8 to 15 years, a significant number of 306DT engines have entered the repair and replacement cycle. For owners and repair shops, our premium full engine assembly offers a practical balance between cost and performance.

The 306DT belongs to Land Rover's SDV6 engine family, with a displacement of 2,993cc, a V6 configuration, high-pressure common-rail direct injection, and twin sequential turbo technology. Depending on the calibration, maximum power output is either 225kW (306HP) or 184kW (250PS), with peak torque of 600Nm. Both the cylinder block and cylinder head are made of aluminum alloy, resulting in a lighter overall engine weight that benefits vehicle weight distribution.
This engine gained market recognition for its excellent low-end torque and good fuel economy, performing particularly well in off-road and towing scenarios. As a reliable OEM quality direct replacement engine, it fits daily replacement and heavy-duty usage perfectly.
Common OEM Issue: Bearing Seizure (Spun Bearing)
Bearing seizure is the most fatal failure on stock 306DT engines. Main and conrod bearings will spin under insufficient lubrication or long-term heavy load, scratching crank journals severely. In extreme cases, connecting rods break and crack the whole block, leading to sky-high repair bills.
Root causes of bearing seizure:
- Delayed oil service causing clogged oil galleries and low oil pressure
- Standard OEM bearings with insufficient fatigue resistance under continuous heavy load
- Worn crank journal surface over long service time
First, forged crankshaft. The original cast crankshaft suffers weak torsion resistance and cracks easily under heavy loads. Our forged crank with dense grain structure greatly boosts fatigue and torsion resistance to eliminate crank breakage risks.
Second, KING bearings. KING performance bearings come as standard fitment. With premium alloy coating and superior fatigue resistance, they provide full lubrication protection and withstand heavy loads to prevent spun bearings.
The combination of forged crank + KING bearings makes our engines far more durable than stock OEM units, ideal for heavy towing and frequent off-road use.

Every engine undergoes full bench testing before shipment, including cold oil pressure test, cylinder compression test and leakage test. All upgraded forged crankshafts and KING bearings are 100% screened to rule out hidden defects, so this reliable Land Rover engine assembly delivers steady OEM-level performance with extended service life.
Q1: Can the bearing seizure issue be completely eliminated after these upgrades?
A1: The combination of a forged crankshaft and KING bearings significantly reduces the risk of bearing seizure. However, the reliability of any engine still depends on proper use and maintenance. We recommend strictly following Land Rover's original service schedule, changing oil and filters on time, and using oil that meets specifications.
Q2: Should I choose a Long Block or a Complete Assembly?
A2: If you are sourcing engine assembly for sale, it may be hard to pick between the two options. We suggest Long Block for badly damaged original engines, while Complete Assembly suits those wanting easy installation.
Q3: How do I ensure the engine exactly matches my vehicle?
A3: The most reliable way is to provide your vehicle VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). With the VIN, we can confirm the specific engine calibration version, production year, and parts variations, ensuring the delivered engine is fully compatible with your vehicle.
All engines are covered by a 1-year official warranty.
Exclusions: Warranty coverage does not apply to engines damaged by inferior engine oil, insufficient coolant, insufficient lubricating oil, failed external heat dissipation or oil pipeline parts that lead to cylinder scoring, bearing seizure or overheating damage.
