The Audi CRE / CREC is a 3.0L supercharged V6 gasoline engine (commonly known as the 3.0 TFSI) from the Volkswagen-Audi Group’s EA837 EVO (2nd/4th generation) series. It is a significantly upgraded version based on the earlier 3.0 TFSI engines (CAJA, CGW, etc.), produced from approximately 2014 to 2018/2019.
Key improvements include: an aluminum cylinder block fitted with cast-iron cylinder liners (significantly reducing the risk of cylinder scoring), the adoption of FSI + MPI hybrid fuel injection, an optimized Eaton supercharger (with partial disengagement capability), a full-range variable valve timing system, and compliance with Euro 6 emissions standards. The CREC is the most common high-output version (333 horsepower); other variants include the CREA (approximately 310 horsepower) and the CRED (approximately 272 horsepower), which are primarily distinguished by ECU tuning.
This engine is renowned for its linear power delivery, low turbo lag (a characteristic of mechanical supercharging), and high reliability, and serves as the main six-cylinder powerplant for Audi’s mid- to high-end models.
