The Audi BAR is a 4.2L naturally aspirated V8 gasoline engine from the Volkswagen-Audi Group’s EA824 series (actual displacement: 4,163 cc; commonly referred to as the 4.2 FSI). It was produced from approximately 2005 to 2010.
It belongs to Audi’s new generation of all-aluminum V-series engine family (sharing a modular design philosophy with the 3.2 V6 FSI), featuring a 90° V8 configuration, direct injection (FSI), dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) with 32 valves, and fully variable valve timing. The BAR version is a comfort-oriented tuning variant designed for large SUVs (as opposed to high-revving sport versions like the BNS in the RS4). It delivers strong power and ample low-end torque, and was primarily installed in the first-generation Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg.
