The Mercedes-Benz 157984 (also known as the M157.984) is a high-performance 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbocharged (BiTurbo) engine independently developed by the Mercedes-AMG division based on the M278
architecture. As one of the flagship examples of AMG’s “One Man, One Engine” philosophy, the M157 family has completely replaced the previous-generation naturally aspirated 6.2L M156 engine.
Technical Features and Construction: It features an all-aluminum cylinder block and head, a Silitec (silicon-aluminum alloy) cylinder wall coating, combined with piezoelectric direct injection technology and
twin turbochargers. To withstand the high pressures and temperatures characteristic of AMG-level performance, the M157’s crankcase, connecting rods, and pistons have been reinforced, and the thermal
management system has been significantly upgraded.
