The Volvo B5254T (and its subsequent high-performance variants, such as the B5254T3 and B5254T7) is the flagship model of the most legendary inline-5 turbocharged gasoline engine family in Volvo’s history.
In the model code, “B” stands for gasoline, “5” for five cylinders, “25” for a 2.5-liter displacement, “4” for four valves per cylinder, and “T” for Turbo (turbocharged). Derived from Volvo’s renowned
“White” modular engine platform, this engine has undergone multiple iterations since its debut in the mid-1990s, accompanying Volvo through its golden age from the P80 platform to the P2 and P3 platforms.
Technical Features and Structure: A lightweight, all-aluminum block and cylinder head; a unique odd-cylinder inline five-cylinder layout (combining the compactness of a four-cylinder engine with the smoothness
of a six-cylinder); equipped with a single turbocharger (some high-performance versions, such as the R series, feature a lightweight, low-inertia turbocharger); and equipped with VVT (Variable Valve Timing).
Its exhaust note features a highly distinctive “deep, rumbling five-cylinder roar.”
