The Land Rover 224DT engine is actually derived from the DW12 / Duratorq 2.2L diesel engine platform jointly developed by Ford and PSA (Peugeot Citroën Group). In Jaguar Land Rover’s naming convention,
“22” stands for a 2.2-liter displacement, “4” stands for 4 cylinders, “D” stands for Diesel, and “T” stands for Turbo. Depending on the tuning, Land Rover classifies it into the low-power TD4 and the
high-power SD4.
Technical Features and Construction: It features a cast-iron cylinder block and an aluminum alloy cylinder head, and is equipped with a Bosch high-pressure common-rail direct injection system, piezoelectric
fuel injectors, and a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The timing system employs a hybrid drive design consisting of a “timing belt-driven camshaft + a short chain connecting the two camshafts.”
