The Land Rover 204DT engine is part of the Ingenium 2.0L inline-four diesel engine family (internal code AJ200D), which was developed entirely in-house by Jaguar Land Rover. In Jaguar Land Rover’s naming system, the 204DT serves as a comprehensive replacement for the older 224DT (2.2L) diesel engine sourced from Ford/PSA and is currently the best-selling diesel model in the Jaguar Land Rover lineup.
Technical Features and Structure: It features an all-aluminum block and cylinder head, with a modular design. It is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) or high-output twin turbochargers, and features exhaust-side variable valve timing (VVT) technology and high-pressure common-rail direct injection. The most notable structural feature is that the timing chain system is designed to be mounted at the “rear” of the engine (i.e., on the side closest to the transmission), which is intended to improve the vehicle’s weight distribution and crash safety.
