What is engine assembly?The B48 is a 2.0L inline-four turbocharged gasoline engine in BMW’s modular engine family (which includes the B38, B48, and B58), designed to fully replace the earlier N20 engine.
“Single-Port” Technology Evolution (China VI / EU6d): During the B48 engine technical update (B48TU) and the transition to China VI (EU6d-Temp) emissions standards,
BMW restructured the dual-port/dual-pipe exhaust manifold originally used in the TwinScroll system. The “single-port” version (Single Exhaust Port) integrates the exhaust manifold directly into
the cylinder head (Integrated Exhaust Manifold) or reduces the outlet to a single exhaust port design. Combined with a particulate filter (GPF / OPF), this significantly shortens the catalyst warm-up time
to meet China VI / EU6d emission standards. It is primarily used in BMW’s low- and mid-power models (such as the 320i, 325i, 525i, X3 25i, etc.).
