What is engine assembly?The FB25 is a 2.5L horizontally opposed (Boxer) engine from Subaru’s FB series. As the successor to the EJ25, it officially entered production around 2010–2011 and remains in use today.
It features an all-aluminum open-block design (with cast-iron cylinder liners) paired with an aluminum DOHC cylinder head. The cylinder head features a split-type structure
(cylinder head body + separate camshaft housing) and is equipped with Dual AVCS (dual variable valve timing for both intake and exhaust). The timing drive was changed from a belt to a chain.
Compared to the EJ25, the FB25 offers significant improvements in fuel economy, emissions, and torque at low-to-mid RPMs, while retaining the low center of gravity characteristic of
horizontally opposed engines.
