What is engine assembly?The EJ25 is a 2.5L horizontally opposed (Boxer) engine from Subaru’s EJ series, produced from approximately 1996 to 2019. It features an aluminum alloy cylinder block
(with cast iron cylinder liners) and an aluminum alloy cylinder head. Cylinder heads are divided into two main categories: SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft, e.g., EJ251 / EJ253)
and DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshaft, e.g., EJ25D, EJ254, EJ255, and the turbocharged EJ257). Later versions were equipped with the AVCS / i-AVLS variable valve timing system.
Due to the horizontally opposed configuration, the cylinder heads are divided into left and right sides (Left / Right), and there are differences across model years and emissions versions (such as EGR ports).
