The 274920 (full name: M274.920 / M274 DE20 AL) is the primary variant of Mercedes-Benz’s M274 series 2.0L inline-four turbocharged gasoline engine, introduced in 2011–2012 as part of a new generation of modular engines.
It shares a core design with the transversely mounted M270 series but is configured in a longitudinal layout for rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models. Produced at the Stuttgart-Untertürkheim and Kolleda plants in Germany, it was introduced to replace the older M271 EVO.
The cylinder block features a die-cast aluminum “open deck” design with embedded cast-iron cylinder liners or a plasma-sprayed iron coating, paired with DOHC (dual overhead camshafts), variable valve timing, direct injection, and a single turbocharger. The engine is renowned for its lightweight construction, high-efficiency power delivery, and low emissions.
