The M272 3.0L (M272 E30 / KE30) is the mid-displacement version of Mercedes-Benz’s M272 series of 90° V6 naturally aspirated gasoline engines. It was introduced in 2004–2005 to replace the older M112 E28.
It shares the same aluminum alloy cylinder block architecture as the 2.5L (E25) and 3.5L (E35) engines in the same series, but features a smaller bore and a crankshaft with a shorter stroke. It was manufactured at the Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt plant in Germany from approximately 2004 to 2013.
The cylinder block features a die-cast aluminum alloy construction (90° angle) with embedded aluminum-silicon alloy liners (Al-Si liners), and is equipped with a balance shaft, DOHC (dual overhead camshafts), continuously variable valve timing (intake and exhaust), and hydraulic tappets. Overall, it is renowned for its smooth operation and reliability.
