The 271860 (full name: M271.860 / M271 DE18 AL / M271 EVO) is a 1.8L inline-four turbocharged gasoline engine from Mercedes-Benz’s M271 series, belonging to the M271 EVO (second-generation upgraded version).
Introduced in 2009 to replace the earlier supercharged version, it employs direct injection (CGI) combined with turbocharging technology, making it lighter and more efficient than its predecessor, the M111. It is manufactured at the Stuttgart-Untertürkheim plant in Germany.
The cylinder block features a die-cast aluminum alloy construction with embedded cast-iron cylinder liners, paired with a DOHC (dual overhead camshaft) configuration, hydraulic tappets, and variable valve timing. Known for its compact size and robust power output, this engine is primarily used in the C-Class, E-Class, and SLK models.
